Festival of Flowers

Every year the Festival of Flowers aims to transform Pioneer Courthouse Square, Portland’s living room, into an interactive, botanical display. Inspired by Portland’s tattoo culture, Lango Hansen creatively enlivened the plaza through “ink.” Nearly 20,000 annuals in 4" pots were arranged across the space to recreate the classic heart tattoo, complete with flowers and flames. The bright colors and strong imagery drew people to the square, where they could interact with the theme by receiving a temporary tattoo reflecting their pride for the Rose City. Walking paths were integrated into the design to allow for people to have an engaging experience, and outdoor lounge furniture was scattered throughout the site to encourage people to inhabit and enjoy the space.
